Working hard, exercise and having fun: meet Floortje

‘My colleagues are genuinely interested in one another, which I really appreciate’

Always on the go – both at work and outside it! In the HR department, Floortje takes on all sorts of tasks, and as soon as she closes her laptop, she certainly doesn’t sit still. She loves getting out and about, doing fun things with her friends, spending time with her family, and – not unimportantly – whenever she can, she’ll pop along to a lively party! She’s also joined the Venco Runners and has taken up running. Curious about her story? Read on!

Sometimes you come across something that just feels right. That’s what happened to Floortje when she saw our job vacancy on Indeed. With a touch of hesitation, but mainly curiosity, she decided to apply. Looking back, she says: “Actually, I was quite happy in my previous job, but this was closer to home and with a larger organisation. That’s what really clinched it for me.” She knew exactly what would suit her: “Good conditions, such as flexibility, were important to me. But also a pleasant, personal atmosphere. A ‘we know each other’ culture.” On 1 February 2025, Floortje walked in for her first day at work. The first week took some getting used to, she says. “I didn’t feel lost in terms of the atmosphere, but I did feel a bit overwhelmed by the number of people working here. It’s a big place, so you have to find your way around.” She soon noticed the culture here and how important the warmth and commitment are. “Colleagues are genuinely interested in one another. They ask how you’re getting on, even in your private life. I really appreciate that. I also quickly noticed that everyone here is just themselves, regardless of their role. You can just pop into someone’s office, even if they’re a manager.” At first she found that a bit of a change, but now she actually finds it very pleasant.

You’re bound to bump into each other in HR – whether you’ve just started or have been here a while and are running into a problem. Floortje is often the first point of contact and so a familiar face to many colleagues. That’s no surprise, as her role puts her right at the heart of everything to do with HR. “In my role as HR Officer, I handle everything to do with recruitment, career progression and staff turnover,” she explains. “I also manage the HR mailbox and help new colleagues get to grips with systems such as Visma and Venconnect.” Because she spends a lot of time at her desk, colleagues know where to find her. “They’re often practical questions, but sometimes people just want to have a chat. And then I’m glad I can help them.”

She is also involved in other projects. She explains enthusiastically: “Together with Eva, I’m working on the VencoFIT programme. We come up with and support initiatives, maintain the information page, and try to motivate colleagues to get – and stay – fitter, in whatever way they can. The best part is that I can really help my colleagues make progress through this. You often hear great stories about the initiatives, which really gives you a boost!”

The HR team is evolving rapidly, and it really shows. New colleagues, fresh ideas and a forward-looking approach. “There are lots of different types of people in our team,” says Floortje. “That’s precisely our strength. Everyone brings their own experience and expertise to the table.” With the organisation growing, it can be quite a slog at times: “The workload is heavy, but we have a strong team. From pay and absence to legislation and regulations; we complement each other well. Our different backgrounds also make us stronger.”

The department evolves alongside the organisation. Floortje explains what that means: “We are growing, becoming more professional and continuing to improve. We are constantly looking at how we can use our HRM system as efficiently and effectively as possible. Together, we are looking ahead: optimising processes and preparing for the future. We are certainly set to make great strides in this regard.”

Each day is different, and that’s exactly what makes the job so enjoyable for Floortje. “You get to work with so many different people here. Someone from logistics has completely different questions than someone from R&D. That makes it incredibly varied.” But the most important thing? That’s the colleagues and the atmosphere. “My coworkers and the friendly atmosphere make it a pleasure to come to work every day. We also have a ‘no-nonsense, just get it done’ mentality here, and I really like that, haha!”

She’s also looking ahead to her own professional growth. Thinking about the future, she says, “I’d like to take on more projects, such as those related to onboarding, or help VencoFIT grow further. And I want to broaden my HR knowledge to discover which area of HR I’m truly passionate about.”

Whether she's at work or at home, Floortje is rarely sitting still.
